Open Studio classes give us the opportunity to render things in their true character, unlimited by mediums and the public gaze, all in the atmosphere and presence of other creatives.  Sign up for all 6 sessions here! 

An artist will over see the class to assist students as needed.  Our supplies are available to all participants and students are welcome to bring their own or a project they are working on as well.

Painting Landscapes 1

Join artist and instructor Eric Westbrook in developing and improving your landscape painting skills. Instructor will be demonstrating with oil paint, but students are welcome to use acrylics if they prefer.

Bring your own or utilize Arts Council supplies of acrylic paint, brushes and mixed media paper, included in the cost of the class. Both standing and table easels available.

Classes will be February 28th, March 7th, & March 14th from 2:00-4:30PM and can be taken as a series or for just one session.

Eric Westbrook is a painter, illustrator, and art instructor living and working in the Washington DC area. Current and former teaching venues include The Yellow Barn at Glen Echo, The Smithsonian, and VisArts in Rockville, MD.

The Painted Screen: A Unique Baltimore Folk Art

Date and time: Saturday 4/18 10-3 pm

Minimum Age of Student: 12 and up

· All miscellaneous materials

Workshop Description:

· The Baltimore Painted Screen Workshop consists of:

· A presentation on the history of this unique Baltimore Folk Art – Approx. 60 minutes

· Painting a miniature screen – 2 to 3 hours

· Collecting the screens – 15 minutes post workshop

· The miniature screen is approx. 8 by 10 inches and will be take home in a black envelop frame.

· Compositions will be provided for any folks who are not comfortable yet with their artistic skills.

Instructor bio 

· Michael Seipp is a Baltimore native. His 50-year professional life was spent rebuilding Baltimore’s neighborhoods. Twenty years ago, he started drawing City scenes in charcoal and ink as an avocation. Remembering the painted screens, he grew up with, he decided to take a class at Common Ground on the Hill and subsequently studied under the teacher, John Iampieri, a Master Screen Painter. Michael is now a Master himself and regularly takes on apprentices to help keep this Folk Art alive and well. Michael is a member of the Hamilton Art Collective in Baltimore City and his screens are on display at their gallery located at 5502 Harford Road. Besides grandkids, gardening and golf, painting screens is a part of his daily routine.
